@I went to Egypt with my husband and both mothers. We took  8 days tours and the first 2 days we stayed at this hotel near Pyramids in Giza. Giza locates one hour from Cairo by bus.

The breakfast in this hotel looked nice thoughcwe were told from our tour coordinator that many tourists have in trouble after eating fresh vegetables and cut fruits. So we gave up eating these foods. After a few days we learned that advice was good. @

@@@@@@

@ Sightseeing in Giza was great. We could visit famous pyramids. One stone is huge!

@

@@

@@

The tour took us a shop of pictures on papyrus paper.

@@@@

The portrait of Tutankhamen. Itfs gorgeous and expensive.

@@@@@@@@@

@@                We ate local food in a restaurant in Giza.

@

After the lunch, we went to Egyptian archeology museum. Nobody knew this museum was attacked during the demonstration started on 25th. We were very lucky to visit this museum with calm and safe on 24th.

@@@

@There were shops in the hotel and we bought some souvenirs. My mom bought a big suitcase since her suitcase was broken. She looks happy and also shop salesclerk looks happy too!!

@We went to another areafs pyramids.  Saqqara locates 1-2hour from Giza area. I prefer this pyramid than the one in Giza since not too much tourist place and calm. I took our Egyptian guide and tour bus.

@@@@@

@This mother and her son are living in Cairo. Her husband is American ambassador in Egypt.

I wonder where this family is living nowc

@@

@@

@Those small shops were attractive but there were no price tags and no time to visitc

@@

@

@Many kids and salesmen approached us to sell these items.

  .@@

 I bought this shawl with 25 Egyptian pound(about 4$) and necklace( 1$ )

If we should have bought more since nobody knew we couldnft buy souvenirs in Cairo after the demonstration. We stopped by a carpet factory. Small kids were working in the factory. @

@@

If I were asked what kind of food did you like in Egypt? , I would answer it was this Egyptian bread. The bread has empty space and you can put some souse or meat as you like. Itfs delicious!!

Most of Egyptians are Muslim. Religious Muslims pray many times in a day even if they are on a road.

@@

@Ifve seen this car in south-east Asia before.           Egypt horse carts still exist.

@@

@

In suburb, there is a big shopping center. We expected to buy local sweets and items but many imported items are sold here.

@@

We took an over night train itfs called g Nile expressh from Giza to Aswan.@

@@

@@

@We enjoyed sleeping in a train even the train food was so poor^^;..

The Nile Express arrived Aswan station on time. Our guide was surprised since itfs always late for the schedule. Right photo is Aswan station. We stopped a factory to make perfumed bottles.

@@@@

@Temples of Abu Simbel is very famous. It took about 4 hours from Aswan by bus.

@

@On the way back to Aswan, we got sand of Sahara desert and I put them in the perfumed bottle.

From Aswan, we took a cruise ship for 3 nights 4 days. It was big boat and meals were delicious.

@

Many fresh vegetables and fruitsc.but we didnft eat so much here too. Some tour members who ate salad were in sick. Our stomach is maybe sooooo delicate!

@

I enjoy Egyptian bread.                               The cruise shipuMs WORLDv

@

On the top of ship was comfortable. We could see the lifestyle in local people while we were sailing.

@

Room in a ship        We came to Aswan using this railway and back by ship!

@

@ Both side of the Nile, there are many relics of an ancient civilization. We got off some times to see them.

@

Local people.             At night there was belly dance show in the ship.

Luxor

@@

The scale of gValley of the kings Mortuary Temple of Hatshepsut (right photo)h was huge.

There was a tragic incident ( 65 tourists were killed by terrorists include 10 Japanese) in 1997.

@

My mom bought this black back in the small shop (right photo) in the Sheraton hotel between sightseeing.

@

Temple of Karnak was great.                           obelisks

@

            scarab

@

After the sightseeing of gTemple of Karnakh, our guide told us we couldnft go back the ship by bus since all main roads were closed by police. We understood the situation because we had heard there were big demo in the city ( not in Luxor but all over in Egypt). We took a small boat that it looked like the same boat that we took that morning. And we sailed on the Nile for a hour and approached to the ship from other side of river and jumped in the ship. The ship staff welcomed us.    I heard from the staff that some tear gas bombs were thrown to ship and had to move from the shore. The tear gas was strong so staff who were on deck couldnft open their eyes for a while. Even when I saw him, his eyes were red and had tears.

We couldnft sleep well since we had to get up at 3:00. We didnft know whatfs going on but we rushed to the airport. There were many tourists in the airport but there were few airplanes since most flights were cancelled due to chaos of Air Egypt. The crew of the airline company couldnft go to the Airport.

Our flight was cancelled but fortunately there was Air Egypt flight from Osaka and some tourist got off at Luxor and there were vacant seats so our tour members took the seats to Cairo. I felt sorry the tourists who came from Osaka since I thought they had to go back to Japan again without any sightseeingc

Our schedule on the last day was cancelled though we could see many places and had fun so we were lucky. We flew to Cairo International airport and started a long day to wait there. I got left paper in a shop at the airport. I wanted to get any newspaper itfs written in English though I couldnft. Many things were sold out.

The right paper that I got in the airplane the next day.

@

In the Cairo Airport, we couldnft find any foods but the travel agency readied for us from the Airport hotel. It was great but the timing was not good since we received it when we had to go immigration to leave Egypt. We waited in a queue with this big lunch box!!

We believed we would get back to Japan that nightc.but

@@

@hThis flight was cancelledh

after we waited the flight at the gate more than 5 hours and chad to enter to Egypt again then slept on the floor at Cairo International Airport. The floor was cold but it was clean. If the airport was oldcwe were in more miserable situation I think.

The next day, Cairo International Airport became crowder with people who wanted to evacuate from Egypt.@

@@@@@@@@@@@@@@

After we waited to resume a flight a day, our tour coordinator gave up and readied to go to the hotel in Giza area. I worried to go Giza since Japanese embassy told us the safest place was airport now and they recommended to stay here and to find any ways to evacuate from Egypt as soon as possible. But one of our tour member was very sick so I think our tour coordinator choice to go the hotel and rest for a while.

At the moment, I happened to hear the conversation from behind. They were two business men who lived in Cairo and they came to see off their family. When I learned that an Egypt Air will take off the night, we should try to get the seats and told our coordinator about that.

We didnft have that flight tickets though many Japanese couldnft come back to Cairo by that scheduled time so we could get those seats. It was so lucky!  After we got into the flight, we waited crews and the flight flew for Narita in a few hours.

2011/01/31

The news of the big demo in Egypt was broadcasted in Japan since 28th and the flight was the first flight from Egypt so many reporters were there to take our interview.

@@@@@@@@@@@@@

We came back Japan a day behind of schedule. We couldnft go a few places and slept on the cold floor a night but we were very lucky. So many tourists had to come back using charted flight and cost them a lot.  I have many sightseeing places tickets here. All sightseeing places are controlled by the government. I hope Egypt will become safe and many tourists go to see those great places again.

This trip was the first trip with both mothers and us(my husband and me). The last 2 days were hard though we enjoyed this trip as a whole !
